Allie Smith directs policy advocacy and all programming for GIWPS, which leverages GIWPS’ convening power to ensure women peacebuilders have a meaningful voice in high-level policy processes and crisis response efforts. This includes GIWPS’ Afghanistan work through the signature initiative Onward for Afghan Women, as well as the ongoing crises in Ukraine, Myanmar and Iran. She also serves as Senior Advisor to Ambassador Verveer and manages strategic partnerships with governments, multilateral organizations, and civil society. Previously, Allie worked on mediation and conflict resolution in Myanmar with the Kofi Annan-chaired Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, where she supported the development of policy solutions for resolving the Rohingya refugee crisis. She also worked with CARE Myanmar on gender-based violence programming and the Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategic advisory firm, on Myanmar conflict analysis. Allie holds an M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, with a concentration in Sub-State Violence, and a B.A. in Politics with Honors from Whitman College.
