This October marks the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security. Yet, women in conflict and post-conflict settings remain systematically excluded from peace processes and decision-making. This is particularly true for Afghan women who are enduring the world’s worst women’s rights crisis, facing systematic exclusion from public life in Afghanistan and barriers to international forums, even as global narratives suggest the country is now more peaceful and secure.
Mina’s List and the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security, co-sponsored by the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund and co-hosted by UN Women, invite you to a high-level panel discussion with Afghan women leaders. The event will center Afghan women’s lived experiences, challenge prevailing narratives, and highlight their definitions of peace and security. Mina’s List will also launch a new policy brief based on a survey of nearly 500 Afghan women, offering their requests to the international community and recommendations for the way forward.
