Women, Peace and Security Centers of Excellence

Breadcrumbs

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of State to support regional WPS Centers of Excellence in Colombia, Kosovo, and the Philippines. The WPS Centers of Excellence initiative represents a significant opportunity to strengthen WPS coordination and implementation efforts by drawing on the leadership and lessons learned across government, civil society, the private sector, and researchers.

Our Institute is excited to work alongside the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI) and host governments, in partnership with women leaders and civil society, to bridge the gap between policy and practice.

Through a variety of activities in each country, GIWPS aims to support the WPS Centers across three primary lines of effort:

  • Leveraging GIWPS’s vast network of experts and leaders to increase the impact of WPS Centers and stakeholders.
  • Strengthening and supporting WPS Centers and stakeholders on the development of strategies, approaches, and solutions that advance WPS.
  • Utilizing key convenings to facilitate learning, deepen networks among WPS leaders and experts, and raise awareness of critical WPS issues.

The WPS Centers of Excellence initiative was born out of a critical need to accelerate progress on Women, Peace and Security issues in a more sustainable and coordinated manner. As we approach the 25th Anniversary of UNSCR 1325, harnessing the collective expertise and power of the global community of local, national, and regional WPS leaders is more vital than ever. GIWPS is pleased to support this important initiative to facilitate and foster global WPS efforts.
