December 8, 2025 marks one year since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.

It also marks the beginning of Syria’s complex political transition after more than a decade of devastating conflict. Amid fragile institutions, humanitarian recovery, and ongoing security challenges, Syrian women have stepped forward to help rebuild governance structures, advance justice, and ensure that peace and reconstruction processes reflect the aspirations of all Syrians.

This public virtual conversation brings together leading members of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement (SWPM) to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned during the first year of Syria’s transition. Officially launched in 2017, the SWPM comprises Syrian women and men from diverse intellectual and ideological backgrounds. The movement brings its members together around a shared vision of an inclusive Syria—one that upholds equal rights, dignity, and opportunities for all Syrians.

From local reconciliation efforts and transitional justice to constitutional reform and women’s political participation, the discussion will explore how women’s leadership is shaping Syria’s new future and what is needed to sustain an inclusive post conflict recovery and democratic transition.

Featuring Members of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement:
