Global Networks of Women Leaders

In an era of rising authoritarianism, increasing rates of violent conflict, and persistent attacks on women’s rights, networks play a critical role for women peacebuilders. By working in diverse coalitions locally, nationally, and internationally, formal and informal networks enable women to share tools and tactics, conduct joint research, build skills and mentor one another, and amplify messages and develop joint campaigns. These networks also empower a global cohort of women advancing peace and security worldwide.

Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security is committed to strengthening and building networks to advance WPS worldwide. In individual countries in crisis, regions, and internationally, we link together women and amplify their work at the highest levels, jointly advancing the role of women in creating a more peaceful and secure world.

As part of our work, we host an annual Global Women Leaders Summit at The Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center to convene global women leaders from diverse backgrounds to advance gender equality, climate action, and democratic governance—and to catalyze cross-generational action on today’s most urgent global challenges. The Summit provides a rare opportunity for deep reflection, connection, and idea generation among current and former heads of state and government and other accomplished leaders. Chaired by Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Global Women Leaders Summit aims to strengthen existing networks, forge new alliances, and build lasting relationships to amplify the collective influence of women leaders around the world.
