Film Screening: Champions of the Golden Valley
Champions of the Golden Valley is an award-winning documentary that follows a rural mountain community in Bamyan, Afghanistan, where young athletes have built a remarkable, homegrown skiing tradition amid political transition and uncertainty. As the U.S. withdrawal unfolds and the Taliban returns to power in 2021, the film captures resilience, hope, the refugee experience, and the enduring potential of youth and community.
This screening aims to create a thoughtful space at Georgetown University for reflection, dialogue, and engagement around sport, perseverance, youth leadership, and global solidarity. We are hoping to, in the footsteps of the film’s producers, deepen understanding of Afghanistan’s social realities through human-centered storytelling and encourage cross-cultural empathy and informed discussion within the Georgetown community.
