Women and Empowerment: Participation and Decision Making
Abstract
Empowerment is one of the major goals of feminist politics. Women and Empowerment is an exploration of the issues involved as women struggle to achieve control over their own lives and to influence the world around them. Using examples from many different countries, and an analysis that goes beyond politics to include women’s participation in economic development, Marilee Karl describes the limited progress that they have already made. She emphasises the strategies that women have used so far, and argues that the key to progress rests on the further organization and mobilization of women themselves.
