Executive Summary

This report explores the extent to which the reforms made on behalf of women in post-Taliban Afghanistan have actually improved the lives in Afghan women. With a particular focus on Afghan women’s participation and clout in ongoing peace and reintegration processes, this report finds that women and larger civil society’s vision for peace contrasts with that of the government. Where the former seeks policies that cement the advances women have gained thus far, the government would like to promote a power-sharing deal with the insurgency that may bring an end to military violence but risks rolling back advances made for the population, especially women, in the process.
