Georgetown University launched The United States Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Index, a new and comprehensive measure of women’s rights and opportunities in the United States that ranks all the 50 states and the District of Columbia. We capture three key dimensions of women’s well-being and examine major racial disparities within states. This report builds on the global WPS Index, launched in 2017 and updated in 2019, that evaluates women’s status and well-being across 167 countries around the world. The U.S. WPS Index will make its debut in National Geographic magazine on October 8.
The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security hosted an event with leading experts and activists who shared top-line findings from the report and discussed how the data can support transformative change and accelerate progress for women. Panelists shared insights into the trends in achievements and gaps of women’s well-being across the United States. They also reflected on how stakeholders can draw on the results to set priorities for action and inform more effective policy, practice, and partnerships.
Hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security.
