Engaging Youth for Gender-Just Climate Action

On Wednesday, 17 April, the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) and the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) hosted a side event to the 2024 ECOSOC Youth Forum entitled, “Engaging Youth for Gender-Just Climate Action.” This panel brought together young women engaged in climate activism from Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Trinidad and Tobago to discuss the key role young people can play in advancing climate initiatives and policy that is inclusive and gender-responsive. Panelists emphasized the need for both education and resources for young women implementing climate initiatives at the grassroots level as well as creating space for their voices and perspectives to be meaningfully included in global policy processes and climate change governance more broadly.
