A Luncheon with Former President of Ireland Mary Robinson and Peace Negotiator Monica McWilliams

Former President of Ireland Mary Robinson reflected on her trailblazing role as Ireland’s first female president and as former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. She discussed her ongoing work as chair of The Elders and with the Global Women Leaders network operated by GIWPS and The Rockefeller Foundation.

Monica McWilliams, a negotiator and signatory to Northern Ireland’s Good Friday Agreement, spoke about women’s roles in the historic Northern Ireland peace deal and their ongoing efforts to sustain peace on the island, drawing on insights from her time as a negotiator, as a politician in Northern Ireland’s Parliament, and as Chief Commissioner for Human Rights in Northern Ireland.

This program was hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, the Walsh School of Foreign Service, and the Georgetown University Alumni Association Women of Georgetown Initiative.
