CSW62: Advancing Research on Violence Against Women for Policy Formulation

GIWPS Executive Director Ambassador Melanne Verveer participated in a panel event on the role of research-based evidence in policy formulation regarding violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Research has shown that the co-occurrence of violence against women and violence against children can result in long-term negative consequences for societies. This event highlighted key findings from two major studies produced, respectively, by the OSCE and jointly by UNICEF & UNFPA.

Panelists also shared best practices from countries in developing policies based on research, and addressed the importance of evidence-based policy actions that are multi-sectoral and survivor-centered.

Mr. Luis Mora, Head of Gender, Human Rights and Culture at UNFPA presented opening remarks. A full list of panel participants, as well as background on the topic, can be found here. This event was hosted by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and UNICEF as part of the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
