Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi joined Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Oksana Markorova and Former Ambassador of Afghanistan to the U.S. Roya Rahmani for a conversation about women’s leadership in conflict sponsored by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security and the Women of Georgetown in San Francisco, California. The event was moderated by the executive director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security Amb. Melanne Verveer.
Speakers offered a sobering assessment of the war in Ukraine and the Taliban’s rollback of basic human rights since the fall of Kabul. They discussed the importance of a “just peace” in Ukraine, the need to think about women as part of the solution to compounding crises in Afghanistan, and the critical role that technology is playing in both countries.
Thank you to our Georgetown Ambassadors for Women, Peace and Security for helping to make this event possible.
