Executive Summary
This brief comments on the status of women in Afghanistan post-US withdrawal, and makes recommendations for ensuring that the gains made for Afghan women over the last decade are not rolled back once the US departs. Key components include applying a gender-sensitive lens to aid and development programs deployed in-country; increasing women’s participation in Afghan development, peacebuilding, and decision-making institutions; and working with religious leaders to ensure women are respected and violence against them condemned.
