A Guide to Economic Growth in Post-Conflict Countries
Summary
Based on the premise that improved economic well-being can enhance the prospects for sustaining peace, this guide provides comphrenesive recommendations for international donors as to how to encourage economic growth in countries emerging from conflict. It emphasizes the need to include women in transitional employment-generation programs as well as highlights the disproportionate burden women often bear during conflict. Its recommendations revolve around removing constraints on ‘new entrants’ to the markets and generating public-private dialogue that includes women’s groups, and it uses promotion of women’s businesses in Afghanistan as a small case study.
