Abstract

Conflict prevention is not a new concept, but it has generated new interest in recent years among both academics and policymakers. Despite a significant amount of discussion and analysis relating to conflict prevention strategies, there has been minimal attention focused on the capacities of women in this area. The purpose of this article is to examine the frameworks that have been proposed for conflict prevention, to survey some of women's recent conflict prevention‐related activities around the world and to consider how women's initiatives can be incorporated into the development of effective conflict prevention policies at the regional and international levels.
