Summary

The International Community recognises the need to prevent and respond to
conflict-related Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 and related Resolutions call upon all parties to armed conflict to take special measures to protect adults and children from gender-based violence, particularly rape and other forms of sexual abuse. There are six Resolutions that provide support to UNSCR 1325 and concrete areas for implementation. A unifying goal of these Resolutions is to prevent conflict-related sexual violence, improve assistance to survivors and support the establishment of field-driven systems for reporting to the UN Security Council and ensure accountability, including criminal responsibility for perpetrators.
