Executive Summary

This article provides an update on the status of the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes Region of Africa. The critical role that UN Special Envoy Mary Robinson has played in building a sustainable peace in the region is highlighted in this article. Elevating the role of women in the peace process and combining top-down and bottom-up approaches to peacebuilding have been central to the Special Envoy’s efforts.
