Women’s Political Empowerment, Representation and Influence in Africa

Summary

IRI conducted a pilot study of women’s political leadership in Africa using quantitative data related to women’s role in national government. The resulting index provides a snapshot of women’s representation and leadership in the legislative and executive levels across 29 countries and their influence based on four indicators. The results provide a more nuanced picture of women’s representation and influence and the correlation between women’s political representation, leadership and influence.
